Multiplayer Review (techperspec.com)

Modes: The Black Ops Multiplayer includes the good ol’ Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, HeadQuarters, Domination, Search and Destroy, and Sabotage. Along with the addition of new modes as well, the Combat Training mode where you can practice against bots in a multiplayer setting, and the awaited “Wager Matches” where you can gamble your COD Points (The game’s currency for which you purchase weapons/unlocks).

Maps: There are 14 brand new maps which should keep players entertained for some time, or at least until a DLC comes out.

Killstreaks/Perks: There are many brand new killstreaks in this one, ranging from RC-XD car (more on that later) to things like Valkyrie Rockets, and even Napalm. Same goes for perks, almost everything has been reworked, while only few were brought back from Modern Warfare 2.

Gameplay: The gameplay was amazing.  As with all the other call of duty games, the controls were the same.  Nice, Smooth, and very easy to learn.  If you have played any of the other games, you would be able to pick this game up and take first place from the first game, as it was in my case. One aspect I like that wasn’t in the other games was the ability to perform a special move.  When you are sprinting, and you press B (on Xbox) and hold it, you jump and perform an amazing move. It is defiantly something that would look good on the final kill cam. The kill streak rewards really made me feel like I have accomplished something when I get one. The lowest one is the RC-XD remote controlled car.  You remotely take control of the little car and drive it around, for a limited time, and blow it up in someone’s face. I always get a good laugh out of it when the other player tries desperately to stop it, but it just drives up, and BOOM.  The only thing I would change in the gameplay is the RC-XD’s controls. It is a bit weird, but you control the direction of which the RC car turns with the right thumb stick. (Xbox) I would defiantly change it to using the left thumb stick, for it just feels more natural. For PC, you control the steering with mouse rather than WSDA keys.
There is also special “contracts” in the multiplayer section, you can accept those and upon fulfillment you gain additional COD Points. There is also the “Zombie Mode” where you will have the chance to murk zombies just like in Treyarch’s previous title “World at War”.  So the gameplay stays very solid throughout my whole experience with Black Ops, no complaints there.

Visuals: Some people complained about the deaths in Modern Warfare 2. They said, “It isn’t realistic enough.” I agreed.  It looks funky when you shoot someone in the stomach, and they fly forward?  In black ops, the folks at Treyarch took these complaints into consideration and made it more realistic. Now, if you shoot someone in the stomach, they actually fly back.  Everything a call of duty fan would want!  The gun animations were great. Not too much recoil, but not too little. They found the perfect happy median.  The blood and gore made me happy. I like to see blood splatter when I shoot someone.  The blood splatter was perfect in my opinion. The graphics might not be absolutely “cutting edge” but they are by no means outdated. After all, not every gamer has beefed up PC to run newest games on highest settings, and Black Ops works out for everyone in that matter.

Audio: Audio is a very important part in a video game.  And the audio in black ops stays rather good. My first thought when I fired the MP5K, was “Wow. That sounds GOOD!”  It just sounded so realistic.  And I am a big fan of games that have realism in it.  The voices overs at the start and end of the rounds were great as well.  New voices equal new personality of the game series. Last but not least concerning the audio was the walking sound and environment sounds.  When you’re walking on sand, it actually sounds like SAND. Not like someone rubbing their hands together and saying “ha-ha, I like sand.”  Same with shooting metal or the ground, it sounds like it. And it makes it seem like your right  in the action. The different factions also have their own voices and sometimes clever things to say.

Value: This game cost $65 USD New. This was a reasonable price considering how much I have been playing it.  When I start the game, I can’t stop playing. And to me, that’s when you know you have gotten your money’s worth with a video game. There are other prices for different types of games though.
